Intercultural Communicative Competence Model Using English Literature: A Case Study at Some Islamic Universities in Indonesia

The acquisition of intercultural competence is considered paramount in enabling learners to engage comfortably with individuals from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds. ability communicate interact appropriately backgrounds increasingly recognized as a fundamental component the 21st century learning skillset. To investigate attitudes, knowledge, skills students relation activities, this study employs literature-based instructional approach. implementation Intercultural communicative through English Literature (ICC-EL) paradigm among 92 enrolled Education Study Program at an Islamic higher education institution subject study. research adopted mixed-method approach generate both quantitative qualitative data. Specifically, questionnaire was administered upon completion course elicit data, while data obtained observation students' performance by lecturer. results demonstrate that ICC-EL model has proven be successful stimulating communication skills. Furthermore, literary materials form novels encouraged administer their awareness incorporation variety techniques provided greater exposure languages cultures, thereby encouraging them manage assessment competency employed deemed appropriate adaptable for different language teaching evaluation contexts.
